Preliminary Task; Felicity Bearfoot-Fallon

Our Preliminary Task was to create a short video, portraying our continuity editing and filming skills. The people I worked with were Elona Doci, Jessica Fernando and Shannon Considine-Tobin. we planned what we were going to do first so that everything was prepared and organised. Elona and I set up the camera, for example the white balance and ISO balance, to make sure the camera was suitable for filming. Jessica and Shannon were then responsible of the actual capturing of the footage and camera angles.

We had to film in two separate locations; indoors and outdoors. Filming this too quite some time as we did not change the white balance when we went to a new location, which has affected the footage at some point in the video.

When filming, we made sure we captured all the shots needed, so when it came to editing, we had enough footage to show our skills in editing, for example adding transitions, cutting and replacing shots.

Next time we need to remember to change our white balance each time we film in a different location, so our footage is not badly affected.

Preliminary Evaluation (Jessica Fernando)

In order to create a video for our Preliminary task our group used different types of camera angels, in which we showed our continuity editing skills for this task.
The people I worked with for this task was Elona Doci, Shannon Considine-Tobin and Felicity Bearfoot-Fallon.

Throughout filming our preliminary task, we were located in school, where myself and Shannon's roles were to film with different types of camera shots and angles. On the other hand, Elona and Felicity set up white balance in some of the scene and they also acted out the scenes, which we called the clip 'Teacher and Student Meeting'

Whilst filming, we shot each scene more than twice in different angles, we did this because we can edit the different shots in order to add the best ones into our final video.

WWW: There were a lot of things that went well when doing the preliminary task for example we all worked together as a team. our match on action went really well, we got shots in different angels, in which we chose the best ones for our task.

EBI:  To make our video better, we should of done an over the shoulder shot, in order to see Felicity while she was talking, rather than keeping the camera set on Elona all the time during the conversation. White balance was set in the beginning, however it wasn't on during the conversation, therefore the scene didn't look as good. We shall remember to set it next time

Preliminary Evaluation (Elona Doci)

Our Preliminary task was to create a video which used different camera angles, as well as showing our continuity editing skills.
For this task i worked with Jessica, Shannon and Felicity.
As we had to video in school we all choose certain thing to do. Shannon and Jessica were in charge or the filming whilst me and Felicity set the camera up before anything could be filmed and them we were actually in the video being filmed.

Before we started filming we made a plan so that we were able to go out knowing what we were doing so we had enough time to film everything.
For the filming we needed to film both inside and outside and one of the things that took some times was having to set the white balance for each place we were filming in, this took quite some time and was slightly off at the beginning of the video.

When we were filming we made sure we filmed enough so that when it came to editing we were able to use clips from every part and merge them together. When editing we had to make sure that the action flowed throughout and made sense to the audience; We had to add in a transition as we didn't fully film me walking and sitting in my chair therefore we had to add in the transition to make up for the missing footage.

One of the criteria of the task was to include match on action. This is when something is happening in a scene and there is a cut, however the same piece of action is still going on after the cut but from a different angle; this is also an example of continuity editing as it is making clear to the audience what is going on and they are able to follow the action.

The next time we film we must remember to set the white balance for each place we are filming in and to make sure that we have all the footage we need and extra just incase.

The Rule Of Thirds

                                      The Rule of Thirds

Our task was to go out and take pictures that conform and deliberately break the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds is applied by aligning an image or subject within the intersections of the 9 square imaginary grid. Having the image correctly within the intersections frames the subject completely.

If  a grid was placed over this image, we would be able to see the intersection fit onto the boys eye, and cut across his forehead, with his face within a square, completely framing the image and conforming to the rule of thirds.

Same goes for this image, the boy with the camera is within the right hand side of the intersection and in the foreground of the image, whilst the other boy is in the left intersection and in the background of the image.

This image breaks the rule of thirds as the boy is not correctly within the intersections of the image, however the image still is successful as it conforms to the subject of portraiture, and includes examples of good composition, framing and shadows.

1 Minute Task - Shannon, Felicity, Elona, Jessica.

                                      Shannon, Felicity, Elona and Jessica

On this day, a professional came into our media class to talk to us and teach us about filming and how to use editing software. While filming, we had to take into account the different camera shot and angles we'd just learnt. This quick task let us practice using the cameras and get familiar with the settings we needed to use. This is our one minute clip we produced for this task.
