Construction Editing Process- Felicity

Titles and Credits

We had trouble with the organisation of our titles at first, as the sound effects and music clashed with the actual visuals. To fix this, we changed the order of our opening titles, so that our production companies were first and had the most attention to them. With this, we added a bear sound effect to 'Bearfoot Entertainment' and then added some music to 'X Productions' after the introduction to BBC Films. We also have a slight pause after the opening titles so that it is clear our thriller film is about to start. We chose to have BBC Films as part of our opening credits as they are a big company and it would look more professional, as well as have 'X Productions' and 'Bearfoot Entertainment'

For the titles, we wanted them to appear just after the first scene of where we see the main character talking to the camera. Our aim was to have the titles appear subtly and fade away, so they are seen, but not a major distraction from the actual footage which we want the audience to concentrate on.

Sound Effects

'Bearfoot Entertainment' is our executive production company and the logo was made by Shannon. To add to the logo we added a sound effect of a bear as we had researched other thriller films, and the production companies in their opening credits had similar effects to match their companies.
Also during the opening, we added sound effects such as footsteps and opening doors, as we discovered that when we tried to do them ourselves, they did not have a a big enough affect, so we added them in.

Music

For our music, we had researched into many different thriller openings and discussed which we thought seemed similar and best fit to our own. many were slow and included a lot of suspense and tension, which would be expected in a thriller opening. We then discovered a YouTube channel, with many different soundtracks and pieces of music on it, all copyright free. We went through a lot of them and managed to narrow them all down to 3 different soundtracks. In the end we discovered when overlapping two of them gave a greater effect than them on their own. This really helped the danger and suspense build up in the second part of our opening.

Visuals

Here, we had discovered that the lighting was slightly off, and experimented with different filters, tones and highlights. Originally we were going to make the whole opening in black and white, as this made the picture quality better and more of a sinister feel. However, we thought it would be best for the security camera parts to be in black and white and the rest in colour, so this defines and notifies clearly to the audience when the main character is being watched through the security camera.

Our main idea for our opening was have flashbacks somehow involved. So we had the main character talking to the camera at the start about how she had been kidnapped, then cross-cut back to the point where it's just about to happen, then before we see the actual kidnapping, the clip fades out as if it were to go into the actual film.
